Taco Tuesday

This is my husbands favorite day of the week. Not because he has a torteous trainer ride and run but because it is followed up by some good tasting (and healthy) tacos, hence the name TACO TUESDAY. I like to switch things up each week as far as what filling goes in the tacos but for now, here is my base.
1. Spelt, white, or yellow corn tortillas
2. Veggie pepper jack cheese (Whole Foods carry brands that melt well)
3. fresh salsa
4. fresh avocado

Now depending on how James' training is going I will add in different meats. If I see he is tired and needs more Iron then I add some lean sirloin strips or ground meat. If he wants something lighter to keep at race weight I opt for egg whites or grilled chicken. If you really want some good flavor, grill the chicken in balsamic vinegar and light Italian dressing. Tonight I will make breakfast tacos using half brown eggs and egg whites (good source of omega 3's), brown rice (high in manganese which allows energy production from carbohydrate and protein), and some black beans (extra potassium and protein). YUM! I'll try to get some pics of James' scarfing his face, ha!

Hey Sam,
I'm excited I received my first question!
USA Triathlon sets the criteria you have to meet to become pro in the sport. Off my head I think you have to be within 10% of the winners time in an event with a purse of $10,000 or more.
I have not used a HR monitor in a while just because there are so many varibles that can affect your HR. That is just me as many people are fans of HR training. I think it is important to find your goal pace and train around that pace so your body knows it come race day.
I have never done a VO2 max test, but I do know there are some top triathletes with low VO2 max numbers. I think it comes down to how efficient you are when it comes to racining especially on the run.
On the bike power meters are huge! That is were you can become very scientific with numbers. Weight comes into play on the bike. If you divide your power output by your weight you can figure out how many watts you push per kilogram of body weight. Guys like Chris Lieto push huge numbers. I'm currently trying to get my watts up.
I think to be pro you need to be consistant, efficient, and dedicated.
Hope that answered. If not write me again.
Take Care!

Thank you for responding. So when it comes to watts what kind of power do you aver for a half ironman race, and what would your power to weight ratio be? thank you.
cheers

Sam,
On my field test my Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is 320 watts. I weigh 140 pounds so I produce 5 watts per kilo gram. I probably stay in my Level 3 watts of 222-266 watts for a Half Ironman. I'm new to power and there is so much to learn.
What are you training for this year and do hope to turn pro at some point? Hope all your training is going well and if you have any more questions I will be more then happy to answer the best i can.
